September: Absolute Beginners and Extraordinary Happenings
September: A pivotal month when extraordinary things happen...
Of all the months in the year, September always feels the most pivotal.
You might be reading this as a parent whose child is starting school for the first time or about to go up a gear in the education system (even if you aren’t, you’ll surely remember the sensation of putting on that school uniform and chucking a bundle of cool new stationery into your bag all those years ago).
And with Summer holidays now in the rear view mirror, I’ll bet that many are contemplating that career move concocted over a tall drink some place exotic. I recently did some social media and web analysis for a specialist recruitment firm which revealed that they had the biggest increase in new LinkedIn followers – and most visitors to their website - during September and October. Strangely enough.
Plus it’s the beginning of Autumn. And almost Christmas again.
Time’s a strange thing. When I reflect on my own son starting school this week, it’s incredible to think that he’s outgrown the nursery environment that for so long was his world. That world has now got a little bigger as we’re left at the school gates for the first time – a symbolic moment when you can almost hear the cycle of life turn another notch.
With life on the move, that old cycle is cranking around everywhere right now. It might be a return to business-as-usual for many but for others the beginning of something new, exciting, daunting – and maybe life-changing.
Virtually all of the Extraudionary programmes I’ve made to date are built on such moments – not ones that change the world but still remain profound within a personal universe. People often tell me that they don’t have anything interesting to say about their lives but, from my interview experience over the last 8 years whether for radio or Extraudionary, I fundamentally disagree. The minutiae of an individual life lived – and those pivotal occurrences within their world - is the stuff that the best soap operas or dramas are made of.
And if you need proof, some wonderful examples of life-changing stories captured to date can be found on a 5-minute clip via www.extraudionary.co.uk/testimonials (just click on the radio icon to hear them).
So, against this backdrop of a month when extraordinary things are happening in their own quiet way, if you know someone who has a story to tell or life to capture for posterity there's no time like the present...To find out how to create an Extraudionary programme, head to the 'Contact' section of my website or simply email me - andrew@extraudionary.co.uk.
